A Little Story about a Huge Challenge
The 300 km for LIFE Bike Challenge was launched in 2008 by Lynda Bouchard, Coordinator at the Fondation du Collège Beaubois and a former executive assistant at the Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CMDP) of the Laval Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS). Mrs. Bouchard, who is a breast-cancer survivor, wanted to find a way to give back for the care and services she’d received, as well as to contribute to supporting other victims of this terrible disease.
As a Mauricie native and cycling enthusiast, a route from Laval to Trois-Rivières seemed like a natural choice. With support from many other individuals, including surgeon Dr. Patrice Lamoureux, she inaugurated this cycling challenge, which then included roughly 50 cyclists and raised a few hundred dollars for the cause.
In 2018, on the 11th anniversary of the first edition of the event, 300 km for LIFE shattered records: 130 participants and $237,000 raised for the Regional Cancer Program. Over those 11 years, more than $1.7 million have been raised. These results have been celebrated by a commemorative painting hanging in the Centre Intégré de Cancérologie de Laval: 300 km dans les rayons de la VIE, a piece by artist Mika.
