The Poster
Choosing drawing as his preferred means of expression, Jeraume has embarked on a meticulous artistic process, seeking to establish subtle connections between his work and Héritage Montréal's mission, dedicated to preserving the city's rich built and landscape heritage. His work, a narrative fresco in cold hues, depicts a complex temporality where past, present and future intertwine harmoniously, following the annual cycle of Quebec's cold weather. At the heart of this composition, a representation of Montreal captures the city's iconic architectural essence. In the foreground, cyclists animate the scene, symbolizing the constant movements that have shaped Montreal over time.
With the onset of November's chill, many are preparing to forsake daily cycling panoramas - which offer a distinctive connection with the urban environment - in favor of other modes of travel that can't compete with these vistas. Winter dresses facades and parks in cold colors, inducing a different, more introspective and slower relationship with the city - until the effervescence and warm hues are reborn in spring. Each season brings its own contrasts, punctuating the reunion with familiar landscapes that rekindle our sense of belonging to Montreal.
The expressive texture of the drawing reinforces the emotional depth of the work, testifying to the artist's sensitivity to the preservation and transmission of memories. In this way, the work becomes a vibrant tribute to the city's architectural, historical and landscape heritage, which is intimately linked to the climate and the state of mind it induces in its citizens.
